By The Waterhole is the solo project of vocalist and composer Eva Pfitzenmaier, known from the art rock band Krachmacher amongst others.
The music can be described as contemporary singer-songwriter, rough on the edges and undoubtedly original. Vivid lyrics and catchy melodies join forces with energetic rhythms and organic soundscapes, accompanied live by captivating video clips.
Supporting her vocals with only a tweaked keyboard and a few effects, Eva shifts from work song to conceptual improvisation with impressive voice control. Though influences range from pling plong music to alternative pop, from contemporary music to good old fashioned blues, By The Waterhole manages to blend these different music genres respectlessly and with ease. The result is honest, refreshing and challenging.
On the uncompromising debut album "One" the vocals are direct and the production minimalistic, corresponding to Eva's live performances , where she - as on the album - is responsible for all audio. It is without doubt a unique expression: Through impromptu play with text (bythewaterhole.com/texts) and genres, the listener is thrown from ramshackle, improvised R'n'B to beautiful ballads, with the greatest confidence.
Eva Pfitzenmaier is originally German and has lived for the past five years in Bergen, Norway . She comes from a jazz and improvisation background, and has brought inspiration from there into her own musical world, where nothing is taboo.
